Merck seeks FDA emergency use authorization for antiviral pill treatment

If authorization is granted, the drug, made by Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, would be the first oral antiviral treatment to fight Covid-19. It comes in capsule form.

This pill looks extremely promising in treating disease of Covid-19. So well, in fact, that the study was stopped because it was preventing deaths and serious illness. To me, this would be second best to the vaccine as a promising treatment for disease, not infection.

I feel like this is the hardest thing for people to grasp - that if you can get infected without serious symptoms, that is a success. Keeping people out of hospitals is second best to keeping people from catching the virus. There seems to be far less hesitation for cures or treatment rather than preventions.
