WindowSwap lets you get a view from around the world
Lockdown measures are being eased all across the globe, but I think that this site will hold its quartine hype once we are all back to normal.
WindowSwap is a simple site that opens your browser window to a window from a random site around the world. There is nothing to download and no ads.
The view from Santa Marta, Colombia.
The project was created to allow people from around the world to share the view that they are seeing. The only requirement to submit is a recording of a 10 minute, horizontal HD video of your view with part of your window frame in the shot.
Another great feature of the site is that audio is included as well. This ambient noise of birds chirping, cars driving by, or even the strangers having a conversation in a different language is always interesting!
This leads to many people all over the world with the ability to submit the view from their window for everyone else to enjoy. The Instagram feed is also an interesting follow as new submissions are uploaded.
For $20 a year, you can get WindowSwap All-Access. All-Access includes every window ever uploaded instead of the weekly selection.
There is also a Tip Jar for tips to go directly to the stranger that uploaded the video. This to me is a fantastic idea to get people to upload their locations and to be able to make a few bucks while sharing.
I have multiple monitors in a room with only one window. So, I will hop onto the site and let the random location take me to somewhere beautiful.
I don’t think I will ever see some of the amazing places that are uploaded and would never get the view that these strangers get every day.
