The Science Behind Hurricanes

I enjoy learning about the Earth that we live on. The New York Times released an article discussing how Hurricane Ida powered up and why it became such a powerhouse of a hurricane.
> “Ida found the perfect path across the gulf, where the warmest water is,” [Chris Slocum, a NOAA researcher] said, and that provided plenty of energy for the storm to extract. “You could say it’s a worst-case scenario.”
I am far from a worse case scenario hopeful person. While bingeing on The Weather Channel all day on Sunday, I found it odd how they make everything seem like it is the worse event ever (not to mention how many times Ida was compared to Katrina). I feel for the people of Louisiana and everyone effected by this storm, but the science behind it is so intriguing. Learning about how everything seemed to go right for the hurricane as the warm ocean, humidity, and lowered wind shear powered the storm almost to a Category 5.
