Keep your personal information safer in Google searches

I along with many others have a Google alert setup to notify myself when my name turns up on the web. It is a handy feature that can oftentimes turn up interesting information. I discovered a local race car driver with my same name although he may not be the Ross Chastain that used the wall-ride maneuver to gain positions, it is still intriguing to follow someone just because we share the same name.

Google is now rolling out new tools to protect your personal information. The famous search engine will now alert you if your address, phone number, or email is located on the web.

The Results about you page is where you can learn about the new updates and how to take down information about yourself that you don’t want on the web.

In the coming days, we’ll be rolling out a new dashboard that will let you know if web results with your contact information are showing up on Search. Then, you can quickly request the removal of those results from Google — right in the tool. We’ll also notify you when new results from the web containing your contact info pop up in Search, to give you added peace of mind.

This is a great tool to keep track of your personal information and to quickly remove it from Google searches. This of course does not remove it from the web, but removing it from Google will more than likely keep it from too many prying eyes.
