Do I want a smart ring?

I wear an Apple Watch when I leave my house. I rarely wear one around my house unless I am working out. This means that some days, I do not wear the watch because I do not leave my house.

I find that wearing a watch is like wearing khaki pants.

I am fine to wear it while I am out, but it instantly gets on my nerves the moment I step foot into the comfort of my home. I want to be able to track my heart rate and activity levels at all times.

At CES, there were a lot of smart rings and I wonder if that might be a better fit for me. I am a married man and have gotten used to wearing a wedding band 24/7. I don’t know that I would replace my band with a smart ring, but I might give it a shot on another finger.

What would I want from a smart ring? Obviously heart rate sensing and activity tracking, but would love to have a tiny display of the time as well. I don’t use my Apple Watch for notifications and mainly is used as a quick glance at the time. If I were able to do that with a small ring, that would be ideal.

Options

  • The Evie Ring looks compelling, but is geared heavily toward women and is expensive at $269.
  • The Oura Ring also looks compelling. It has a steep price as well, starting at $300.
  • There is a budget option with the AMOVAN Smart Ring. It looks like it has all the other features as the other options, but is at a lower price somehow.

I’m not sure that I will end up even trying any of these devices, but it is intriguing to see where smart wearables are headed.
