Blogging Clockwise 567: One Person, Four Tech Topics, One Blog Post
Episode 567 of the Relay Clockwise Podcast
Every week, Clockwise serves up four hot tech topics in just 30 minutes. It's quick, it's snappy, and it always leaves me wanting more. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and answer the questions since I would never be asked to join. In this series, although it isn't necessary, you might want to listen to the latest episode to see how the folks at Relay answered these questions. I'll dive into those same four topics, giving you my take on the questions raised.

Would you consider a smaller Mac mini, and what would you use it for?
- I would not care about a smaller Mac mini. I have a M1 Mac mini and it serves its full purpose for me. I use it to Time Machine my MacBook Pro as well as keep a backup of my files with attached SSDs. I also have a VESA mount that has an attachment with a Mac mini holder to hold the Mac behind a monitor. My family used to use it as a family computer that way and it was a cheaper iMac. Since we moved, the mini sits on my desk and is used as a secondary computer that is used when everything else is unavailable as well as a Time Machine backup for all the families Apple devices.

What are your thoughts on Apple forcing Patreon to use in-app purchases for iOS, taking a 30% cut?
- I do not use Patreon and do not subscribe to anyone through Patreon, but it seems like Apple is getting very greedy lately. I agree with everyone on the podcast that this is a bad stain on Apple's legacy.

What are your notification habits and how do you manage notifications on your devices?
- I use notifications like crazy! I have way too many setups that notify me silently. I do not know that it is the best plan, but I love being able to scroll through my notifications. I use RSS through Inoreader and have email notifications about news alerts that do alert me as well as messaging and work communications. I use Apple's Notification Summaries and having a summary of all the notifications that I like to see but do not want to be interrupted from is a great way to see what deals are available. Shelley complained about food delivery services, "They love to ping you with things for deals because it's, you know, on Father's Day, get hot dogs for $2 a dozen." I want to know if there are sales and the Notification Summary is a great place to let me know.

How should Apple feel about Rivian adding Apple Music but not supporting CarPlay, and how should potential Rivian buyers think about this?
- I do not own a Rivian but I use CarPlay on my vehicles. I have two Buicks that have CarPlay built in. I always plug in and listen to podcasts and enjoy the large touch targets that CarPlay provides. In my truck, I have a third-party CarPlay system and I could not imagine not having it in a vehicle I'm driving.
- Apple adding Apple Music is smart on their end, but I really do not like the idea of adding more subscriptions to my life.

What is your go-to travel snack?
My favorite go-to travel snack has to be trail mix. I love making my own by adding in Peanut M&Ms along with honey-roasted nuts and whatever dried fruit I find.
And with that, we have reached the end of this week's entry. I remind everyone reading out there, watch what you read and keep watching the clock.
Bye, everybody.
