Blogging Clockwise 568: One Person, Four Tech Topics, One Blog Post

Episode 568 of the Relay Clockwise Podcast

Every week, Clockwise serves up four hot tech topics in just 30 minutes. It's quick, it's snappy, and it always leaves me wanting more. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and answer the questions since I would never be asked to join. In this series, although it isn't necessary, you might want to listen to the latest episode to see how the folks at Relay answered these questions. I'll dive into those same four topics, giving you my take on the questions raised.

Tech Topics

1. What is a third party app that you think everyone should definitely have on their phone?

I think that everyone should have a third party weather app. The stock app is at average, but there are so many great alternatives out there that nobody should use only the stock app. If you go to Forecast Advisor and search your location, the site will tell you what data source is the most reliable for that area. Apple Weather uses The Weather Channel as its data source, so if that isn't the most accurate, find an app that can have the data source as the most accurate.

2. What is the first app you open when you wake up in the morning?

Obviously, the clock app to turn my alarm off. I usually open my RSS reader which at the moment is Inoreader. I check a few of my folders and then dive into Threads, X, and my current Mastodon client, Mona to get caught up from what I missed through the evening and night. I am trying to spend less time on my phone at night scrolling social media and actually do something productive.

3. What's a bit of tech in each of your lives that is getting a little old or faltering and probably could use a refresh?

My AirPods need a refresh, but I am eagerly waiting because the rumor is that new ones are coming this fall. The battery life has really taken a hit because I use them every single day pretty much all day long most days.

4. Which tech product or concept were you wrong about? Something you saw a few years back and just thought that'll never catch on, but it did.

I was wrong about Apple products. When I was in high school, I thought that Apple products were over priced and locked you into Mac software. I had a Windows PC and a knock off iPod that I thought was better. It broke and didn't work that great, so I ended up getting an iPod but still was against the iPhone when it was released. All these years later and I cannot imagine my day without Apple products being as involved as they are.

Bonus Topic

What is the best thing you've ever eaten while on vacation or just while traveling?

I love the Low Country Boil from The Crazy Crab in Hilton Head, SC. I always get that whenever we go vacation there and I am amazed by how good it is every time I go back.

And with that, we have reached the end of this week's entry. I remind everyone reading out there, watch what you read and keep watching the clock.

Bye, everybody.
