Why Can’t I Control Everything from Anywhere?

I would love to be able to simply go to the next song or skip ten seconds in a podcast controlled by any speaker, phone, or device. This would mean you could control any Matter speaker from any Matter-supported ecosystem app. This seems like a future that seems too good to be true because I’m not sure that platforms are going to benefit from it. What benefit is it to Apple to allow for an Android e-ink device to change the song on a Sonos speaker system that it’s playing throughout my house?

It’s NY Times fault a ball drops on New Year’s Eve

I found this NPR article posted today about how the tradition of dropping a ball on New Year’s Eve got started. New Yorkers have celebrated New Year’s in Times Square — the bustling intersection of Seventh Avenue, 42nd Street, and Broadway in Midtown Manhattan — since it got its name in 1904. It’s an interesting read about how the tradition changed throughout the years and that it got started because of a ban on fireworks.

Apple TV+ is going to be free next weekend!

Enjoy Apple TV+ for free the first weekend of 2025 (January 3 through January 5), Apple TV+ will be free on any device where Apple TV+ is available. All you need is an Apple ID to see what all the buzz is about. If you haven’t watched anything from the service, you can’t miss For All Mankind. It is one of my favorite shows that explores an alternate history where the Soviet Union lands on the Moon first, sparking an extended space race that drives NASA to push further and faster in space exploration.

Two men die while searching for Bigfoot

What an awful way to spend Christmas. Two men died while searching for Bigfoot. Their cause of death appears to be because of "exposure, based on weather conditions and ill-preparedness," the sheriff's office said. I can’t think of many ways that would be worse than this to go out. Hate it for the families at this time of year as well. Link

Discontinued Apple Devices

Link It has been a good year for discontinued Apple devices. Having so many lightning devices on this list is a great step forward. I still have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and do not have any plans to move to the 16. I am kinda jealous of the camera button because I think I would take more pictures if it was so easy to open the camera. I use my action button as a flashlight, so I could use a button for the camera or even better would be for ever button to be like the new camera button and be fully customizable.

Inconsistent Ad-Free Experiences: The Daily Podcast

One of my favorite podcasts is The NYTimes The Daily podcast. I have been a subscriber since it debuted in 2017 and have missed only a few episodes. Today, Axios announced The Daily is putting its archive behind a paywall. Beginning next month, The New York Times will make its audio subscription available for purchase through Apple Podcasts and Spotify. I subscribe for free through Pocket Casts, my preferred podcast player, and listen to the entire podcast with ads.

Blogging Clockwise 568: One Person, Four Tech Topics, One Blog Post

Episode 568 of the Relay Clockwise Podcast  Every week, Clockwise serves up four hot tech topics in just 30 minutes. It's quick, it's snappy, and it always leaves me wanting more. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and answer the questions since I would never be asked to join. In this series, although it isn't necessary, you might want to listen to the latest episode to see how the folks at Relay answered these questions.

Do I want a smart ring?

I wear an Apple Watch when I leave my house. I rarely wear one around my house unless I am working out. This means that some days, I do not wear the watch because I do not leave my house. I find that wearing a watch is like wearing khaki pants. I am fine to wear it while I am out, but it instantly gets on my nerves the moment I step foot into the comfort of my home.

My first post

So this is the first post on my new micro.blog. I have my own blog, but looking to see if this will stick and I will post here more?

Cardboard and popsicle sticks making engine sounds.

I love random stuff like this and how creative people can be. [www.tiktok.com/@minimoto...](https://www.tiktok.com/@minimotordiy/video/7323623726103203078)

My Reality as a non-Pro

I had never put on any type of virtual reality headset other than Google Cardboard when it first came out, and I still was an Android user. That experience was a neat one-off where I looked around in a fake outer space scene and honestly do not remember much else. I let my kids play around, and they were bored with it along with me within five minutes. I’m sure Apple’s Vision Pro headset will be a nicer experience than a cardboard box, rubber bands, and magnets that constituted the Google Cardboard.

White people looping themselves

[www.youtube.com/watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop)&v=4iQmPv_dTI0 I found this NPR Tiny Desk Concert of Fred Again.. from Jarrod Blundy’s HeyDingus blog post of 7 Things This Week and I am so impressed with how creative people can be. It reminds me of Ed Sheeran’s solo performance of I Don't Care (Live At Abbey Road). I could watch people create songs by looping themselves for hours, so if you know of any more, please let me know!

But he didn’t stay jobless for long, as Microsoft swooped in to hire him on Monday, the tech titan announced. Meanwhile, Emmett Shear, the ex-CEO of Twitch, the streaming platform where gamers watch other gamers play, will switch sides and join OpenAI. This has been an interesting weekend before a holiday!

Rosalynn Carter death: former first lady and wife of Jimmy Carter, passes away at 96

Rosalynn Carter, who as first lady worked tirelessly on behalf of mental health reform and professionalized the role of the president’s spouse, died Sunday at the age of 96. Married for 77 years. If my wife and I were to do that, we would be married until 2086 and I would be 96 years old. I could only be so lucky to live such an inspiring life. — Read on www.

Pebble T2, the Twitter alternative that promised to be better, is shutting down

If you are a fan of Twitter, you might have heard of Pebble T2, a new social media platform that claimed to be a better version of the popular microblogging site.
