If they eventually get these things to sort and do laundry then I might be interested. I quit using mine because my kids kept leaving paper towels and tissues in the floor, so this would actually be really helpful!
The arm rises from the middle of Roborock’s latest flagship bot — the Saros Z70 — and can extend out to pick up items such as socks and tissues while cleaning your floors.

I would love to be able to simply go to the next song or skip ten seconds in a podcast controlled by any speaker, phone, or device. This would mean you could control any Matter speaker from any Matter-supported ecosystem app.
This seems like a future that seems too good to be true because I’m not sure that platforms are going to benefit from it. What benefit is it to Apple to allow for an Android e-ink device to change the song on a Sonos speaker system that it’s playing throughout my house?

I found this NPR article posted today about how the tradition of dropping a ball on New Year’s Eve got started. New Yorkers have celebrated New Year’s in Times Square — the bustling intersection of Seventh Avenue, 42nd Street, and Broadway in Midtown Manhattan — since it got its name in 1904.
It’s an interesting read about how the tradition changed throughout the years and that it got started because of a ban on fireworks.

Enjoy Apple TV+ for free the first weekend of 2025 (January 3 through January 5), Apple TV+ will be free on any device where Apple TV+ is available. All you need is an Apple ID to see what all the buzz is about.
If you haven’t watched anything from the service, you can’t miss For All Mankind. It is one of my favorite shows that explores an alternate history where the Soviet Union lands on the Moon first, sparking an extended space race that drives NASA to push further and faster in space exploration.

What an awful way to spend Christmas. Two men died while searching for Bigfoot. Their cause of death appears to be because of "exposure, based on weather conditions and ill-preparedness," the sheriff's office said.
I can’t think of many ways that would be worse than this to go out. Hate it for the families at this time of year as well. Link

It has been a good year for discontinued Apple devices. Having so many lightning devices on this list is a great step forward. I still have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and do not have any plans to move to the 16. I am kinda jealous of the camera button because I think I would take more pictures if it was so easy to open the camera. I use my action button as a flashlight, so I could use a button for the camera or even better would be for ever button to be like the new camera button and be fully customizable.

In a dramatic twist of fate, Sam Altman, the former boss of OpenAI, was kicked out of his seat by a rebellious board on Friday. But he didn’t stay jobless for long, as Microsoft swooped in to hire him on Monday, the tech titan announced. Meanwhile, Emmett Shear, the ex-CEO of Twitch, the streaming platform where gamers watch other gamers play, will switch sides and join OpenAI. This has been an interesting weekend before a holiday!

I love headlines like this.
If someone were to just read the headline, you would think that you could stand in your backyard and watch the asteroid pass by Earth. In reality it is only going to pass within 1,231,184 miles of Earth. Close yes, but it is no threat to Earth. Those quote marks are pulling a lot of weight in this headline.
Astronomers captured asteroid (7482) 1994 PC1 during a flyby of Earth in 1997.

I came across this story and was intrigued by how helpful people can be at any time. During the interstate lockdown in Virginia, a truck driver fixed for a neighboring vehicle. I never would have thought that a truck driver would have a microwave in his truck and then to share food with others is awesome. Full Story

I found this NY Times article about eye twitching to be very informational. My eye twitches occasionally, but I just figure it is because I am looking at a screen ten hours a day.
I also am drinking caffeinated drinks all day and that might be the cause of it as well.
The best part of the article is when explaining as for why it happens: “Nobody knows exactly why,” said Dr.

This commercial for Burberry is so odd and somehow riveting. When I think of having the superhuman ability to fly, I have always had this in mind more so than the way Superman does. This feels so organic, like the wind is actually carrying the people like they are weightless. Anyways, fantastic editing and production to make this feel so real.

> Many people around the world learn to count on their fingers, but we don’t all do it in the same way. Could there be a better method?
I was turned onto this article by Kottke, and it is a very fascinating read. I had no idea that people had regional ways of counting on their hands.

If authorization is granted, the drug, made by Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, would be the first oral antiviral treatment to fight Covid-19. It comes in capsule form. This pill looks extremely promising in treating disease of Covid-19. So well, in fact, that the study was stopped because it was preventing deaths and serious illness. To me, this would be second best to the vaccine as a promising treatment for disease, not infection.

A fisherman paddles through mangrove trees at the Tam Giang Lagoon in the Hue province of Vietnam. Mangroves lose all their leaves in winter, exposing their whitish trunks. Pham Huy Trung Women collect water from a dry riverbed in Khulna, Bangladesh. This photo was one of the "highly commended" images from this year's Drone Photo Contest. Sujon Adhikary My favorite is this shot of a couple sunbathing on ice because I would never be able to withstand the cold for such an awesome photo.

Obesity and Sex-Related Associations With Differential Effects of Sucralose vs Sucrose on Appetite and Reward Processing
This seems to be a fascinating study that shows diet drinks may not be as healthy as we once thought. People with obesity and females were most susceptible.
Both groups […] ate more food after they consumed drinks with sucralose compared to regular sugar-sweetened drinks.
Drinking a diet drink tricks the body into thinking it is getting sugar.

This headline really caught my attention because my kids have an Xbox and a few Nintendo Switch devices. They definitely play more on their iPads then they do on any of the console devices.
I also only play casual games on my iPhone and iPad and these are the only games that I spend money on. I do not have time to sit down at a console, get it setup, and play for an extended uninterrupted time.

Gerald Herbert/Associated Press I enjoy learning about the Earth that we live on. The New York Times released an article discussing how Hurricane Ida powered up and why it became such a powerhouse of a hurricane.
> “Ida found the perfect path across the gulf, where the warmest water is,” [Chris Slocum, a NOAA researcher] said, and that provided plenty of energy for the storm to extract. “You could say it’s a worst-case scenario.

On the latest episode of the Connected podcast, Stephen Hackett explained how he keeps a download folder icon at the top of his downloads area in his dock.
This was one of my biggest pet peeves since I started using my MacBook. I hated how the icon would change to whatever was downloaded and my eye was constantly drawn to the icon because it wasn’t familiar. With this simple change, the icon is constantly a download folder.
