Voyager 2 Back in Touch with Earth After Brief Communications Outage

Source: NASA Voyager 2, the second of NASA's Voyager probes, has re-established contact with Earth after a brief communications outage. The spacecraft, which is now 19.9 billion kilometers away from Earth, experienced a problem with its attitude control system on July 29. This caused the probe to reorient itself in a way that prevented it from sending or receiving signals. NASA engineers were able to send a "shout" command to Voyager 2 to reorient itself, and the spacecraft responded by sending a signal back to Earth on August 3.

Apple's App Store Fees Under Fire as Musk Takes Aim at 'Exorbitant' Commissions

Elon Musk has said he will talk to Apple CEO Tim Cook about adjusting the 30 percent commission that Apple takes on in-app purchases. Musk, who recently acquired Twitter, is concerned about the high fees that Apple charges for creators who sell subscriptions through the platform. He wants Apple to only take a 30 percent commission on the portion of the payout kept by Twitter. Musk has previously criticized Apple's App Store fees, calling them "

Keep your personal information safer in Google searches

I along with many others have a Google alert setup to notify myself when my name turns up on the web. It is a handy feature that can oftentimes turn up interesting information. I discovered a local race car driver with my same name although he may not be the Ross Chastain that used the wall-ride maneuver to gain positions, it is still intriguing to follow someone just because we share the same name.

Using Bard to Write a Google I/O Announcement

I asked Bard to write a blog post about Google IO. It was 1:35p ET, so only just getting started on the Keynote and as you can see below gives an update on announcements that haven't been made yet. Google I/O 2023: A Look at the Latest Announcements Google I/O is Google's annual developer conference, where the company showcases its latest products and services. This year's event took place on May 10, 2023, and was livestreamed to developers around the world.

Apple Playlists

There are so many ways to open and enjoy Apple Playlists, but I just created my favorite way to view and access my Apple-curated mixes, my favorite playlists, and the best radio stations as well as getting notified of when new music is added. When I moved over to Apple products, one of the first things I did was create an Apple Note with links to playlists and radio stations. I thought it was amazing that I could easily link into an app.

Apple App Store Privacy

Gizmodo broke the news that Apple is allegedly harvesting iPhone user data when privacy settings are set not to track. There is currently a class action lawsuit in California against Apple. The issue was discovered by Mysk, cyber security researchers, who found that the App Store sends Apple identifying information such as device ID numbers and how you are connected to the internet. This information when put together can determine who the user is.

Notion AI

Today, Notion has announced Notion AI. Notion claims the power of AI directly into your Notion workspace. If you want to write a blog post, all you have to do is type in a prompt within Notion. To me, this introduces all that is wrong with AI. I do not want to read a bunch of articles written by computers. This to me is a lazy approach to writing articles for a quick buck.

Emergency SOS available on iPhone 14

If you have an iPhone 14, you now have the ability to use satellites to message emergency services outside of cell coverage. The feature was introduced at WWDC and hopefully won’t need to be used but is great to know it is there if needed. From Apple Newsroom: Every model in the iPhone 14 lineup — iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max — can connect directly to a satellite through a combination of custom-designed components and deeply integrated software.

Facades App

Facades by Michael Steeber is a retail store field guide that takes an interesting approach to what an app can do in 2022. The app started off as an Apple Note on Michael’s Mac as a central location of information about Apple Retail stores. As we have all created notes that get bloated with way too much information, it seems that Michael’s note did the same. So what do you do with all the store features, design styles, and locations?
